After graduating from the University of Georgia, Doug started his professional career by honing his business skills with Gannett Communication, The Georgia Press Association and Ross Laboratories in a variety of management, marketing and sales positions. In 1986 a chance meeting led to a contract to rebrand a group of fledgling painting franchises. Two years later, Doug bought the businesses, consolidated and recreated Master Painters of America. A few decades later Master Painters of America is one of the most respected and trusted names in the painting industry.

Doug has also served his community well over the years in numerous capacities at Mt Pisgah United Methodist Church, Johns Creek UMC, Sharon Springs Athletic Association, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, The Miracle League of Forsyth County and The Atlanta Braves Foundation.
